Oil Pulling

by Bruce Fife

Oil pulling is incredibly effective in brightening teeth, healing gums, preventing bad breath, quenching inflammation, and healing oral infections. It is also effective in treating many systemic conditions throughout the body.

The oil acts like a cleanser. When you put it in your mouth and work it around your teeth and gums it “pulls” out bacteria and other debris. It acts much like the oil you put in your car engine. The oil picks up dirt and grime. When you drain the oil, it pulls out the dirt and grime with it, leaving the engine relatively clean. Consequently, the engine runs smoother and lasts longer. Likewise, when we expel harmful substances from our bodies our health is improved and we run smoother and last longer.

As simple as it is, oil pulling has a very powerful detoxifying effect. Our mouths are the home to billions of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other parasites and their toxins. Candida and Streptococcus are common residents in our mouths. It is these types of germs and their toxic waste products that cause gum disease and tooth decay and contribute to many other health problems including arthritis and heart disease. Our immune system is constantly fighting these troublemakers. If our immune system becomes overloaded or burdened by excessive stress, poor diet, environmental toxins and such, these organisms can spread throughout the body causing secondary infections and chronic inflammation, leading to any number of health problems.

Place virgin unrefined coconut oil in a small plastic bag and place the bag in a hot cup of water for 1 minute to warm. When it turns to a liquid it’s ready. Swish oil in your mouth for a couple minutes and spit out.

Super Conditioner

1 egg white
3 to 4 tablespoons of virgin unrefined coconut oil
The juice from half a lemon
1 mashed banana
3 to 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. After washing hair normally, apply conditioner mix to hair. Leave in for a minimum of fifteen minutes up to a half hour depending on level of conditioning you require. Rinse well with warm water.

The yogurt in this recipe works to control dry scalp and dandruff. The lemon adds shine. The banana and coconut oil helps restore moisture and add body and softness.

Coconut Oil Night Time Moisturizer

Place virgin unrefined coconut oil in a small plastic bag and place the bag in a hot cup of water for 1 minute to warm. When it turns to a liquid it’s ready.

Take a cotton ball and saturate it with the coconut oil and apply it all over your face and neck in an upward motion. Wait a minute and repeat. Leave the coconut oil on over night.

In the morning wash and moisturize your face like you normally do. You will notice a difference in your skin.

Coconut Oil Face Mask

Mash 1/2 of an avocado in a glass bowl, and then add 1/2 tsp. of coconut oil and 1/2 tsp. of honey. A study done at Charles Stuart University in Australia showed that honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it good for acne.

Apply the mixture to the face, and allow to sit for 45 minutes. Due to the fact that there is oil and honey in the mask mixture, the application will not completely dry on your face.

Take a wet soft cloth and wipe the mask mixture from your face.

Rinse the remainder of the mask off your face with warm water. Be sure to get all of the residue removed.

Perform a final rinse of your face with lukewarm water. This mask treatment will leave your skin feeling extremely soft and smooth. As with any facial mask, do not apply more than once a week.
